Have you tried connecting it to itunes and see what happens? Try pressing and holding the home button (the round button just under the screen with a white square on it) and plugging the ipod into the computer at the same time? that forces it into restore mode which might make it show up in itunes. If not, just take it back to the store you got it from.

Thanks for that. Nothing happened and itunes didn't identify it.

Any other ideas?

Was it drain of battery to the point that it can't boot up unless it's been on charged for quick short while? I had it happened to me few times when I have mine (1st Gen iPod Touch) drained to the point it can't turn on unless it's been on charged for 5 minutes min to get sufficient all-clear boot up.

Is iPod touch not responding? To reset iPod touch, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

This from Troubleshooting page at Apple

 http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/itunes/#section_4

Can't believe it worked.

if you bought it from DSE we give out a little notice that explains "press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears."

because amazingly enough, this can fix a lot of problems.

gz ftw
