I need a new iPod, as the old Nano has taken a beating. I cannot decide on a particular model, as none seem to comply to the following criteria; that being:
It has to have flash memory (because of the risk of HDD failure if it is dropped.
Prefered non touch screen, durability issues.
Has to be at least 8gb.
The iPod comes everywhere, at work, on runs, in the car, at home etc.
Also, how big is the danger of HDD failure in a Classic?
Thanks guys.

How do you expect people to suggest an iPod when you have already decided that there isn't one that meets your needs? Seems a bit of an odd question! If you want a new iPod only you need to decide on which feature you are prepared to compromise on.

As far as your question about the HDD in the Classic, I have had one for many years without a problem but mine stays in the car to feed the car stereo. I wouldn't go jogging with one but through my experience it can handle everything else without a problem and have never had a HDD failure.

Apart from the classic versions, I think they all have touch screens too.  Get an ipod touch, you know you want too.

I got one for the wife for Christmas, she loves it.  App's too FTW

I've run my 160G Classic in the car everyday for nearly 3 years. I went jogging once too.. only once though because it nearly killed me.
It's still fine.

Well the previous iPod Nano meets your criteria, still available from Apple:

I'd go an older nano from the apple store. Check out refurbs. As good as new ( in somecways better) and much cheaper than standard retail.

Hi,

I have run with my ipod classic hundreds of times and had no problems with it.

My vote is for a refurb'd iPod Nano 8GB.
