Ok iphone been stolen... but I have an overseas iphone 3gs but not sure of the baseband. From looking around it looks like there is a tethered 4.2.1 unlock that's out? And maybe a 4.3 coming up after the weekend.

Is anyone running 4.+ with an unlock  that isnt tethered and what did you do?

Cheers,

There is a 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak, I think it was done by greenpois0n.

As far as basebands go, The only unlockable baseband at the moment is 1.59 I believe, people were substituting the iPad baseband 6.15 into their 3G and 3GS phones to unlock it, but there was major GPS issues with it and they can't downgrade the baseband.

If your 3GS has baseband 2.10.04 or 3.10.01, you're going to have to wait till they release the new Ultrasn0w 1.3, they have confirmed it will unlock both those basebands.

But they also said, they would only release the new Ultrasn0w about two weeks after iOS 4.3 is released. So still a while to wait.

Hope that helped.

Thanks mate. I've restore 4.2.1 to the phone but cant see the baseband. greenPois0n will jailbreak it and then do I need to ultrasn0w to get the unlock so long as I have the right baseband?

update. My baseband is 05.15.04. Looks like it has to be 06.15 to be able to unlock 4.2.1

here is what I did..

restore to 4.2.1.

run redsnow.

Update phone with cydia options and ipad baseband which updates my baseband/firmware. --> no turning back!

run through the rest of the process. -> issue with proxy so used a datacard.

it finished ok and had to reboot tethered.

Then used ultrasnow to unlock.

Done.

Are the GPS and reception working fine with the 06.15 baseband?

after getting it working I tested the outlook OWA remote wipe function for the iphone. I worked very well and deleted the iphone contents and firmware... and then next day apple stopped signing 4.2.1 so that phone is stuck as I don't have shsh blobs so cant restore. Its my backup phone but right not I bloody need it and my NZ phone is playing up.

Didn't get a chance to test GPS etc.. but I've read its somewhat shaky.
