My wife is visiting NZ in a couple of weeks.  Arriving at AKL Internatiional and then flying to CHC.  She has an unlocked iphone 4 (purchased in Dubai).  She wants to get an NZ micro sim. Not too worried about carrier but won't be using much data if any so probably 2degrees would be cheapest if it's easy enough.

Does anyone know if there are kiosks or anything at any of the airports that have prepaid micro sims available?  If so where?  Will she need to make any setting changes in order to use her phone for just phone calls and texts or can she just put the sim in and go for it?

Cheers

Riccarton mall in Christchurch has a 2 degree store. They should be able to help with all that she needs. Not at the airport but pretty close (about 20min drive).

Cheers

Hi Mattv

Dick Smith have them too, here's our Store Locator - http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/storelocator.

Alternatively PM me your address and I'll send you a free blank MicroSIM. You'll need to buy and activate a normal 2D SIM and then call us on 0800 022022 to move the number over.

You should be able to get them at DSE or the Westfield Riccarton 2Degrees store, the staff there will be able to get you sorted, went there just before the earthquake and they were great

Thanks. Will try and get a friend to get a 2degrees one from DSE. A question for 2degrees - I looked to buy a sim online and get it sent to a friend there and though I could have got a regular one, I couldn't see an option to specify a micro one. Is it possible?

Any answer on the original settings question?

The only setting required for internet access if she goes the 2degrees way is she will have to go into APN setting and type 'internet' and turn 3G on and roaming.

All the other mms and tethering stuff will be superfluous

Best to buy a data pack too, grab a 100meg national pack for $10 is the best value if venturing out of the maincentres

But if she's just after calls plus text, she shouldn't need to delve into any settings as such
