Is it worth getting a back cover for the iPad 2? I did for my iPod Touch due to the polished chrome finish getting scratched by just looking at it but I'm wondering if the brushed aluminium finish on the iPad needs to be covered up?

All down to personal choice. Some like to cover it up and protect, some like to show it off, all depends where and how you'll be using it which will determine if it's likely to get scratched or not. If it does get scratched though it won't show up anywhere as bad as those crome finishes!

I don't have back cover for the iPad2, just smart cover. And I did chipped a little on the backside, kinda gutted but at the same time, it's not visible and very impressed how durable it is..

so yes, personal taste, but to me, I don't need more added weight.

You can get little clear silicon rubber bumper dots to put to the bottom. 3M do them.

Or get a BestSkinsEver skin for it.  Clear, thin and barely noticable.  But offers excellent protection.  And it makes it less slippery too.

I've had these skins on both my iPad 1 and iPad 2.  I don't bother with screen protection though, unless I am travelling with it, in which case it goes into a sleeve to protect the whole device.

Around the house I just use the smartcover but when I'm taking it outside I use a proper cover that covers everything.
