Just wondering if anybody has any knowledge of iPad pricing. With the strong NZD at the moment, the US price is considerably cheaper than it is here. When will they re-price the iPad? Will it be at the release of the iPad 3, which I assume will be early next year? It seems pretty much all the retailers here are much the same price, it appears nobody parallel imports them?

Apple lock their pricing down so you won't get one anywhere at a cheaper price, and you cannot buy one from the US or UK directly as they wont ship them out of the country.

Best bet is to take a holiday and buy one yourself or get a friend/relative/3rd party provider to ship one for you, and hope you don't get stung by customs for extra costs.

I doubt the iPad 3 will be out anytime soon, but with Apple you never know.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Apple generally locks in their pricing when they release new models, in part using the current NZ$-US$ exchange rate as a guide, hence why the MBA, Mac mini, and Thunderbolt Display all received price drops.

It's a safe bet you won't see a reduction in iPad price before the next model is released.

It goes both ways though, if the exchange rate quickly dropped to 60c as an example, the current iPad price would remain the same, but would likely increase in price when the next model came out.

Personally I'd wait for the ipad 3 ... just for the higher pixel density.

But, perhaps the NZ ipad 3 price will drop if the USD exc. rate holds up. As said above, they set & hold the price according to the prevailing exchange rate at the time the product hits the market.

Regarding buying in the US...maybe I have to take the kids to disneyland next year he he. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

The playbook does not have a 3G modem built into it

It's not really price fixing if you provide a RRP and then have such slim retailer margins that if they discount they are making nothing out of it. That and likely 'no discount' rules if you want to be a reseller. Scarcity will also mean prices won't come down. I believe the iPad is being priced at the moment to undermine the opposition tablets. And don't forget that quite often state and federal taxes need to be added to the US price.

Its fixed to the exchange rate on release day. always has in the past and probably will be in the future, price adjustments are few and far in between.
