Hello folks... I've been contacted by Vonage to participate with a group of bloggers in a cool promotion for their new TimeToCall app (not much different from others we've done in the past).

I've put the CallsFromSmartphone web page together, where everything will be revealed a bit later this week...

I think you folks should take a look at an updated version of www.callsfromsmartphone.com (not the final version yet, but it explains more)...

I currently use an iTalk voip account (10 bucks month, free minutes to a number of countries) and a sip client on my iphone to talk to friends mostly in the UK.

Using this it seems it would cost me about $2.50 to make a 15 minute call. I cant really see the value in that.....am I missing something. It seems that the ease of payment by using iTunes is the major selling point, not the actual cost of calling?

It's obviously something that will appeal to someone that rather not having to configure SIP software. Also the easy of payment. And it may be cheaper to some countries, not others. As everything else, YMMV.

Also, noticed the part where are giving away one of dozens of iPads?

As far as I can make out it's a nice promotion for VoIP technology. If you want cheaper, like free calling (only pay for data component) try downloading mobilevoip and signing up through the app to voipcheap. They allow 300 mins a week to selected international landline destinations. Has an easy signup procedure.
If you wish to support an NZ cause download the 2talk app, and use your credit card to pay for cheap calls. Also an easy signup procedure.

Edit: you need to put some credit on voipcheap to get the free calling

Another thing about TimeToCall is that call charges are the same for landline and mobile destinations.

I would love an IPad. I think it will go nicely with my android. Then I can be the cool guy no matter where I go. Looking forward to the competition as it will be my first here.
