I have the option of one of two spec iPad2s from the USA

1. Wi-Fi + 3G for CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (800, 1900 MHz)

2. Wi-Fi + 3G model: UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)

As I plan to use it on the NZ Vodafone 3G network I assume that I would need the 2nd model and the CDMA version would only be good for Telecom.

Is that correct?

Telecom XT is a UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA network and has been since launch. The old Telecom CDMA network is being discontinued in 2012 and you can't connect imported devices to it anyway.

This means model #1 wouldn't work in New Zealand at all.

Model #2 works in all New Zealand mobile networks. Some would even dare say it works better on Telecom than anything else, not because of the model, but because Telecom's network just seems to be... better.

johnr: option 2

I agree with the above posters.

I also quoted out of context to make it look like JohnR says Telecoms network is better.

Maybe he does think that?

I don't know.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Number 2 it is. Maybe its time to retry Telecom. I left them ages ago after getting fed up with their service in the mobile and internet arenas.
