Hi everyone,

So I was up early this morning downloading iOS 5 updates for my iPad 2 and iPhone 4.  I have a Macbook running Lion and downloaded both updates before attempting to update my iPad 2 first.  This didn't work and it seemed to be the same problems that everyone else was facing.  During one attempt it seemed to go quite far before saying it could not update.  At that stage the iPad was not listed in iTunes as a device so I removed it.

I now have an iPad that is in restore mode but no matter what I do I can't update it.  It goes through the process but keeps stopping and giving me an error message with the code 3004.  I have tried the fixes that Apple lists on their site but still no luck.  So now I basically have an iPad that I can't use.  Does anyone have any suggestions that could help me please?  I wonder if I should uninstall iTunes and try a reinstall but that will then remove both iPad 2 and iPhone 4 profiles which I would definitely prefer not to do.

Any help would be awesome.

Cheers
Lil

Also I am staying with my dad at the moment so wondered if it it work if I plugged it into his laptop and tried to start it as a new iPad on that and then update it on my Macbook after that.  I'm not even sure if that would work though.

Hi Liliy have ve you tried a full reboot of the iPad by pressing and holding the home and power buttons together and holding until the ipad powers off and the apple logo appears, then release the buttons.

If that doesn't work try putting the iPad manually into DFU mode:

Hello,

Yes I have tried the reset you described and my iPad is like a brand new one again so has been completely stripped of everything.

Do you have the latest itunes? (I did that once, tried to update without first updating itunes because I'd just done it a few days before and didn't know there was another new version).

Also, apple's servers are getting hammered and it's difficult to connect to them atm, that will cause that error code. I've managed to update one of our three ipad/iphones so far. :P You may just want to wait until later this afternoon.

So you've tried
OSX and iTunes updates first and Reboot macbook? This took over an hour for me.
Next the idevice update. this worked for me

Sorry can't be more help I'm about to step out the door.
Good luck

Hi Everyone,

Thanks to you all for your help and suggestions.  I had downloaded the latest versions of both Lion and iTunes so was completely ready for it all.  I tried to reinstall again and for some reason it has worked.  The exact same thing happened to my dad's iPad too.  Thankfully now it is working and all good.  I was starting to get a bit worried though!

Now I just have to do my iPhone.  I won't lie, I'm nervous before even starting now!

Thanks again.

Cheers
Lil

I'm hugely relieved!  I use my iPad for work all the time and it would have had quite the negative impact if I couldn't revert it.  All of my stuff has been saved too which is good.  I did a back up this morning so wasn't too worried about that part but just a bit stressful when nothing seems to work!

Good to hear. You shouldn't worry too much I have never every seen a "bricked" iPhone I couldn't fix and we have almost 50 here at work along with several iPads. Once you get over the fear of tinkering it is great fun :)

Yep, know what you mean. I can't live without my phone at work. (and the ipad at home!) We got the lastipad update done too.

I'm sorely tempted to buy the iphone 4s just for Siri, I do use the voice thingy to phone all the time. I can see it being really useful. It's a lot of money for an upgrade from 4 though!

I'm delighted to say that my iPhone 4 is now sorted too. It's taken close to 8 hours but we've now updated 5 devices! My phone did exactly what my iPad did so maybe it was just part of the process. I think it was being able to get part way through and then hitting a brick wall that Iwould really frustrating. All good now though thank goodness!
