Another discussion on here this morning has got me wondering about the implications of upgrading my mobile devices to iOS 5 while my Mac is still on OS X Snow Leopard. I currently use Mobile Me to synchronise calendars and contacts across all of my devices and it's my understanding that iCloud effectively replaces Mobile Me when a user chooses to migrate over.

Given that Snow Leopard supposedly does not currently support iCloud, does that mean that internet based synchronisation of my calendars and contacts between my Mac and iOS devices would no longer work? In other words, am I effectively in a position where I need to either leave my mobile devices on iOS 4 or upgrade my Mac to Lion?

Have you tried installing the iCloud software anyway from iCloud.com?

Also, I've been out of the Mac scene for a while, but is 10.6.9 out yet?
This article indicates that 10.6.9 may have iCloud support for SL... http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/29/snow-leopard-to-get-icloud-support-in-10-6-9-update/

No, that site clearly states that Lion is a minimum requirement and to be honest I'm not really confident enough at tinkering to deal with an unsupported installation.

Yeah, I've head that rumour. I may just wait a couple of weeks to see if that does actually transpire, and if not then I may as well just bite the bullet and install Lion since it's reasonably cheap and will probably give other benefits.

Thanks for your feedback.

If its worth any;
I found Lion quite a bit faster than SL, and I quickly became a fan of the new scrolling (adopted from iOS).

I think you'll find it not a bad upgrade for <$40. Just make sure you have a good datacap initially lol.
