Hi,

Need a new phone & iPod and the iPhone seems to be the way to go (considering I listen to music all the time at work).....

There's no real difference (for me) between an iPhone 4 and 4s, so I thought I may look in to an iPhone 4....

What would the cheapest method be to get an unlocked iPhone 4?

Ship it in from America / Australia somehow?

Are there any sites? (I'm suprised Clove doesn't have iPhones)....

Cheers...

Check out my other thread here: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=76&topicid=91657
Once factoring in things such as the tax, shipping, etc., it really isn't that much cheaper.

Plus, why would you buy last years technology when there are cheaper options out there in a smartphone? For example, the Sony Ericsson Active which has practically the same specs as the iPhone 4 apart from the internal memory and a smaller screen, but it's only $400.

Not trolling, just saying...

e.g. You might have already spent $$$ on apps, and want to still be able to use them.

With the money you save you could re-download those apps and still have enough money left over to buy a box of beer?

Because I use my iPod all day every day pretty much, and I would like the option of syncing with iTunes wirelessly with my MBP and to purchase songs and download while I'm at work off my phone....... Main pulling factor.....

Wife was just looking at getting one in L.A. By the time it got back to NZ I wouldn't have had much change out of around $900 (32G model) Decided it just wasn't worth the hassle. Apple seem to make a habit of hardly discounting anything ever...I guess that maintains the "elite" status of the product.

That's only 8GB though - I'd be looking for at least 16.

As of the iPhone 4S release, the iPhone 4 is only produced in 8GB models - the 16gb & 32gb models are discontinued.

That raises an interesting point. What do you do if your iPhone 4 is lost or damaged in some way, and your insurer approves your claim for a replacement?

Don't they usually say you have up to $X, go buy a phone, and we will cover it not just give you cash.

No idea, I've never had to do it before. Guess I'll just have to be super, extra, careful with my iPhone until the 4S is readily available here :-)

Trade me! There is a heap of people flicking off 3month old ones for $700... Leave Android out of it, people have their reason for Apple vs Android... I don't like Apple but IMO you cant beat iOS.

Insurance will look at the exact model to replace, including capacity and other internals. When my laptop was replaced through insurance, they look at the internal specs and what is comparable well to what they can be replaced with.

So if you had iPhone 4 32GB and to be replaced today, it'll either be available stock of iPhone 4 32GB (2010 model) or iPhone 4s 32GB (2011 model) or if you prefer, cash payout, or "upgrade" to another make/model of your choice.
