I just got a new iPod touch 4G, great device and very happy with it.
However....
I can't activate and therefore use either iMessage or Facetime: I enter my Apple ID (which works fine with iTunes and the App store) I get the message "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."
My WiFi network is fine, all other devices attached to it (including the iPod for other apps like Safari or Mail) work seemlessly so no problem there.
I have read on other forums that I need to use a different WiFi other than my own to activate these Apps, I don't have easy access at the moment to another WiFi network, and why should this be the case anyway? Seems stupid.
Another suggested solution is to create a new sepate Apple ID to activate these Apps, I don't want to do this on pronciple, it is a hassle and a runaround that I should not have to do.
I have tried rebooting the iPod and the Modem/Router, no help.
I am not alone in this problem and it seems like it is something Apple should have addressed but have not. A bit dispointing for a device that is suppose to "Just work" and otherwise does. In all other resects it is a great, easy to use and I am very impresed with it.
Any comments welcome
