I'm having problems with TuneIn Radio Pro. I've emailed the developer and had a couple of responses, but no solution yet.

The problems are:
Ive got the latest version on the iPad and now it won't play the podcasts from BBC radio. On the iPhone, I've got the previous version, which does play the podcasts. And to confuse things, on our new iPhone 4S, it's got the old version of TuneIn, but won't play the podcasts either.
The other problem is I use TuneIn on my iPhone as a radio alarm. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. There doesn't seem to be any pattern.

So -any suggestions on how to fix these problems? Or failing that, can anyone suggest an app that plays BBC radio podcasts and let's you set a radio alarm?

I can't help with your podcast issue in TuneIn, however Ootunes is an excellent alternative. It uses a different directory from TuneIn so often has streams TuneIn does not.

I managed to fix the podcast issue, by resetting the IP settings on the iPhone. So far, so good.

However I now have another problem. I use TuneIn Pro as my alarm clock, waking up at 6am to Radio New Zealand National. Except for the last week or so it doesn't work. The stream is active, and I can connect on demand without a problem. The alarm is correct, set to start every day, and is switched on. The app is running when I go to bed, screen turned off and docked for charging. Nothing has changed as far as my routine is concerned, it just stopped working for no apparent reason.

I downloaded OOTunes in the hope that it was just the app, but the same problem occured this morning. Alarm on, set to National Radio, plugged into the dock, but no alarm. This leads me to think it's not an app problem. I tried a different alarm time once I got up, and when it reached the alarm time it turned on the stream, so the app is definitely working. The only thing I can think of is that the wifi goes to sleep during the night and doesn't "wake up" for the alarm. How plausible is this? I might try switching Wifi off and using 3G tonight, to see if it makes a difference...

Latest update. Turned wifi off last night and Ootunes worked this morning. Need to test it a few more times but it looks like my theory is plausible and the wifi isn't waking up with the alarm.

I've had the same problem with the alarm not always working on Pro and wondered if it might have been the wifi. It goes *most* of the time but I still set the iPhone alarm to come on 5 minutes after tunein, just in case.  I always set it to sleep for 15 mins and wake up at 5.50 am so nothing changes at my end.

Hope you get it sorted.

Righto - latest update.

I set a backup alarm using the built-in Clock app, to go off one minute before the TuneIn radio alarm was due to go off. I just wanted to test whether it was something internal to the iPhone, or purely app related. The backup alarm went off, but TuneIn did not. I've also tried it with 3G or Wifi, and it doesn't work with either.

Last night, I moved to the next step - I tried my iPod Touch, which is iOS5.0 (not 5.0.1) and using TuneIn 2.1. It went off this morning without a hitch. So this is leading me to think it may either be the app version, or the iOS version. I'm thinking it's easier to rollback to iOS5.0 to test whether that's the problem, so will probably give that a go tonight.

Cheers, thanks for the update. Hasn't gone for me for ages as an alarm other than when I tried it at night. It worked but I was already online so I'll put it down to a rookie mistake. Lol.

Right - for those still interested, I managed to restore TuneIn to version 2.1. I found this was easier than trying to restore my iPhone to iOS 5.0. So, with TuneIn v2.1 running, the alarm went off this morning without a hitch, just like the iPod touch has done for the last 3 mornings in a row. This strongly suggests to me that the problem isn't with iOS, but lies with v2.2 of the TuneIn app. I'm off now to report it to the developer, and hopefully 2.3 will solve this bug. But for now, I will be staying with v2.1.

Thank for your help. I have emailed Tunein as well so hopefully they may get a patch out real soon. I see a few folk don't like their new App icon, wonder if they will change that too?

Got a great reply from Tunein. They are aware of the problem with the screen locked in iOS 5 so suggest we leave it unlocked but dimmed right down until they can come up with a fix. Will give it a try tonight, with a backup of course! :-)

I got the same reply today. Fingers crossed for a fix in the next update. Now if I can just work out why it keeps skipping back 5 secs every 30-40 secs, we'll be golden!

Worked for me too. Dimming the clock display isn't as annoying as I thought it would be. Also, there's been no "repeating" since the update to v2.3, so that's another plus. They've also fixed the remote control issue as well. Happy camper here!
