Minecraft has arrived today in the app store, $10.
I've not previously played minecraft, would this be a good way to get into it?
I understand that the iOS version is the building side of the game only, this seems fine with me to learn with.
I don't use a desktop or laptop regularly, so an iPad version would be good for me if it is any good.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Joseph

I've played a stripped down version on iOS called mooncraft which is a break away build. Playing on an iPhone4 was hard work, the controls were not very fluid and the game lagged a lot. I'd recommend starting out playing it on a reasonably speced computer first, and than migrating to a handheld platform.

I would reccomend starting on a decently spec'd computer, then onto handled device. I would be surprised if the game doesn't lap on an iPhone anyway.

Several good review videos on YouTube now.
Limited to building only, but mostly satisfactory is the impression I get. Some say it is not worth the $, but more features are imminent in near future.

If anyone does buy it I am interested to know whether it supports either landscape orientation, I.e. iPad with power button on LHS or RHS. This is one of my pet peeves, having to rotate my device. I always, always, use my iPad in landscape, with power button on RHS, I hate having to turn it "upside down" to use any app.

Well I went ahead and bought it, seems pretty cool.
Now looking for minecraft pocket edition for iOS tips for n00bs.

App itself works pretty well, couple of minor bugs but overall is ok. Graphics on normal seems to be fine on 1st gen iPad, but am still in mostly empty worlds. Fancy Graphics looks worse IMO, and low quality graphics makes no appreciable performance increase, so have left settings as default.

Edit...

AnI replying to my own previous post, yes the game works in either landscape orientation.
