This is really tempting.

I wonder if there is, or will ever be, the ability to take music from your iCloud on an Android device?  Wishful thinking huh.

Hmmm it  appeared as an sidebar item on my iTunes around lunchtime, it's also  an option on the right menu inside the store itself. I signed up and am currently going through the 'Gathering Information about my iTunes library' process. The charge was $39.95 for a year.

There was the issue where some countries where also able to access it earlier today but they fixed (and refunded) those who signed up.

It shall be interesting to see if this is a mistake or if they're considering NZ part of Australia now. Apple seem to be ahead of the curve so maybe they know something we don't.

If they do invade - I for one will welcome our new 'Stralian overlords.

Can you download the "matched versions" if your hard drive dies?

I think that's the point of Match.

Not just streaming but having the ability to rebuild your library with 320kbs "purchased" music.

From the other thread, you can purchase 2x $20 iTunes cards at Harvey Norman and JB Hifi (currently on special), which makes iTunes match $30 rather than the usual $39.99.

From my perspective, I can't really see the benefit of iTunes match, happy with my current music collection, and seems a lot to pay just for slightly better sounding music

I think it's designed more as a way to legitimise your collection, so it's only really of benefit to those who may not have a completely legitimate collection, and for those who want to be able to get better quality tracks than they currently have.

My collection is a real mixture of content - stuff I've ripped from my own music, stuff I've acquired from friends or family, stuff that has found its way on to my computer when I wasn't looking.  So for me it's a way to consolidate it all into a legitimate collection - something that is more important to me now than it may have been a few years ago.

Anyone having issues with songs not being matched?

I'm finding I have a few songs that are definitely in the store, meet the criteria for matching, the metadata looks good, but they arent being matched!

It kept giving me an error at work and would never finish step 1. Now I'm home its progressing through step 2 but only 20% through after 40mins - 5012 of 19179 Songs checked.

There doesn't seem to be much news on this though and what is out there is confusing. I'm still 50/50 this is a legit launch.

Got match running on my pc (uploading tracks is painfully slow on 0.8mbps upload ADSL) and its currently updating my iPhone 4s music library.

Some of the tracks i had on my iphone(b4 match) are now greyed out and unselectable when i look for the same tracks on my iTunes it has a cloud next the track (that's greyed out on my phone) which says 'waiting'

maybe they'll become playable when the update finishes ?

Almost sounds like a beta release.

Ok its still uploading but has started to populate on my iPad and phone. Now I really get it - on top of a cloud based backup of my tunes it means I'm only an internet connection away from having all my music on any device when ever I want. My 32Gb iPad now has 140Gb of music on it.

One bonus I can see straight away is that I won't need to keep my primary music collection on my laptop anymore - if I want an album I have and its not there I just click download.

But it's not really any device, is it?  It has to be a device with iTunes on it.

I signed up,

i have 80000 plus tracks, and i saw the limit would be 25000, so i wondered what it would match,

eventually 4 hours, and 2 attempts , it matched 16000 odd songs, and then wanted to upload 3500 songs and artwork,

im not sure how or what it chooses to match or not. But i stopped the upload, and need to investigate how it picked what its picked, looks like its gone for ones from my original cd collection before i migrated and there is lots of old crap, i think it might be time to delete half the crap i dont listen to anyway.

simple logic.

So if I have a collection of apple lossless tracks (ALAC), this will give me a 256k AAC version in the cloud that I can pull down to my iphone/ipad and more importantly, it wont change anything on my ALAC collection?

Theoretically, yes.

Whether it does actually leave your tracks olone on your PC/Mac is something I'm not so sure of...

I've had a couple of attempts and of the 5000-odd songs that I have, it was able to match all but 600 of them, which it now wants to upload.
