I recently signed up to iTunes Match and enabled it on my iPhone and iPad thinking that it might be handy to be able to download songs not already on my device in the unlikely event that the need ever arises.

Unfortunately I very soon discovered that the downside of doing this is that all of the music videos on my device are immediately erased as soon as the iTunes Match feature is switched on in the settings app. The only way to restore them back onto the device is to either:
 - Re-download every single video over the Internet directly to the device, hence wasting my broadband cap, or,
 - Restore the content from iTunes, bearing in mind that this requires disabling iTunes Match on the device and leaving it disabled.

At this point I have given up and gone with the second option, but it has left me frustrated and confused as I don't understand why Apple have designed it to behave this way. Has anyone else been stung by this problem?

Yes. Although luckily for me I noticed it on my iPad first, where I don't normally keep a lot of music anyway. It's quite annoying.

Possibly related, but also possibly an iPhones 4S thing: a bunch of stuff refused to sync to the iPhone 4S until I deleted it and re-downloaded it from iTunes. No idea why - they all played fine on the computer.
