The text clarity alone is worth the price.

I used my iPad 1 for a lot of reading and often needed to zoom on smaller text .

The new iPad 3 hits the sweet spot. Just like reading a magazine.

It would be preferable if Apple actually named the device - 'new iPad' is ridiculous and it is difficult to search google for info.

No prob with heat or wifi. 3g works just fine too.

I've had difficulty in converting video to play back OK. Handbrake encodes often result in 'not playable' error.   I would like to encode so video will play back on both my apple tv 3 and ipad 3.

Another issue is that TV series will not show on the iPad 3 under video. There is an option to show 'Movies' , but not video flagged with 'TV'.

Overall, apple have a great ecosystem between the hardware , software and purchasing systems. Things play nicely together and performance is good (although ,  itunes runs so slowly on my PC which has 8gb ram , 2600k intel cpu, & OCZ vertex 3 SSD??Apple really need to sort out itunes performance).

You are completely right about iTunes on PC. I guess it runs OK on a Mac?

I think the iPad 3 is stunning.

The only thing is videos look terrible in you tube unless they are full HD. The same sort of thing with viewing SD content on a full HD TV.

They have named it - "iPad (3rd generation)" is the official name, similar to iPod naming convention they have used for years.

I am fully stoked with my new iPad, having upgraded from an iPad 1.
I just said to my wife not five minutes ago, "I still can't get over how good this screen is"
It is so fast, the display is so good, the camera is great.
I got about $80 iTunes vouchers for my birthday and it is nearly all gone, iPhoto, iMovie, photoshop touch are all very cool.
Tweetbot and Reeder look awesome.
Battery life is great, takes longer to charge tho. Haven't noticed any heating at all, not playing 3d games tho.
Books now look at least as good as mum's kindle, if not slightly better.
Am also very pleased with how low the brightness goes, reading in bed last night, seems very legible at low brightness.
I also bought a Smart cover, very happy with it, especially folded as a stand in landscape mode, like now, works really well.
Overall very very very happy!

Cheers,
Joseph

I'm also loving my new iPad, having upgraded from the iPad 1 it is way faster and the screen is the cherry on the top.

Also gained major wife points by giving her my old iPad 1.  It'll be very interesting to see what apple has in store for the generations of iPad, I'm thinking they'll be looking at the tactile screens.

Pretty sure if you add show info on the video tab of the "get info" box it will show as a TV show.

Well after 5 days with the device I tend to agree that the screen alone makes it worth the upgrade. I really wanted to embrace apps like Zinio and all the content they offered, but some of the publications would just do my eyes in. That's no longer an issue (no pun intended) ;-)

Performance wise it seems exactly the same as iPad2, but battery life seems better to me. "Heatgate" is definitely a non-issue and I certainly don't feel the extra weight. All in all, I'm very happy.

I agree.  I find the screen amazing and use mine all the time for work and at home so decided that it was well worth the upgrade. I use mine with children who have visual impairments too so the screen and camera improvements are a huge plus for me.

+1. A few people have asked about the new one and my view is that it really doesn't do anything that the iPad 2 didn't do (eg. the improved camera is not really an attraction for me) but has a beautiful screen which makes using it a real pleasure. However very definitely a 'nice to have', not a 'must have' - a luxury decision for me.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

this is my first tablet and I really like it. Love that things just work on Apple stuff...my mac, iphone and ipad all play together nicely. Went and bought a coolermaster choiix case from PB Tech for it and it works really well. Am now considering an apple tv just to complete the picture.
