Still cracks me up that they have prepay, for a fixed price per month.....  Isn't that just a plan anyway?

Prepay should be $x for data that you use for as long as it takes, until you run out and need to buy some more.

It is a plan, but the benefit with prepay is that if you want to stop using it, you simply don;t bother topping up any more.  With on account, it will keep going.

furthermore, withprepay you know that you can limit your spend per month to $x by only having that amount of credit.  With on account if you keep using you will keep spending.

silly.. normally each month I use about about 1GB of data - this means I have to buy 2GB at $50, vs 2Degrees $20 for 1GB. Granted its limited to WGTN/AKL/CHCH, but still.. need something in the middle atleast!

I get what you are saying, that it's a capped amount etc, I'm just saying that's not really prepay.  That's an account plan without a fixed minimum period.

I think a lot of people would really like true prepay, as in fill the device up and run with it until you need more, like petrol in a car.  You'd have to think of a name for that sort of offering though, I don't know, something like say prepay?

prepay means you pay for your usage in advance, which is what this is.

what you want is pay per unit - which could be prepay or it could be on account.

Your definition of prepay is exactly right "pay for USAGE in advance".
Unfortunately Vodafone have a different defintion because under their rules I don't get to USE my data (that I paid for) unless I do so within a month.

I'm with Jaxson, that's not Prepay, its a monthly plan.

It's both.  It's a prepay monthly plan.   how is this a hard concept to grasp?

a better question (IMO) would be:

Why the hell do we need special ipad plans at all?

isn;t this just a data plan?  what is wrong with the standard data plans, and why do ipads, which are just data devices like any other, need special plans?

It may be Prepay but only on a technicality, That being it only works taking money out of a prepay balance.

Vodafone are going backwards? Didn't they offer 3gb for $40 a couple of years ago?  Maybe data is getting more expensive to make?

It's special Apple-branded data.

It is still a rort.  Until they come up with a realistic data plan, I'll just use my personal hotspot with my iPhone to connect when I'm not in WiFi.

Not ideal, but at least I'm not feeding the Vodafone beast unnecessarily.

Will 2 degrees have any iPad data plans outside of the main centres?

This is for special high resolution data for the new iPad, it costs Vodafone a lot more to make than the normal resolution data....
