Hi,

If you have a TP-Link Wireless router, you might want to skip the next two paragraphs.
If you have a cursed Linksys WAG1x0N router read on!

I've basically confirmed my long suspicion that my Linksys WAG120N wireless ADSL router is the source of my issues with Apple iOS devices (iPad gen 1 & iPhone 4S) and my Macbook Pro.
The issues are flaky connection (requiring disable/re-enabling of Wifi every ~30min) and Bonjour / Airplay not working.

The Flaky connection turns out to be linksys's poor support of Wireless Power Save Polling (PSP) that Apple uses to save battery. As for Bonjour I can only speculate, maybe they have Broadcast filtering blocked (it's an option on their newer routers) Linksys should REALLY release new firmware to fix this, but they are denying the issue exists basically except for Wireless printing.

I just thought this might save someone a few hours of pain.
So, Cisco/Linksys arn't getting anymore money from me!

Question:

I have seen TP-Link ADSL WiFi routers recommended in the LAN section of the forum and it's at the right price point. Has anyone had any issues with TP-Link Wifi and iOS devices? Specifically Airplay? (I'm hoping for a resounding No!)

I had a TP-Link wireless router and d-link ADSL modem with the latest firmware etc and found that on certain apps like 'Stuff' on my iPhone, it would lock up and I had to reset both the routers to get it to respond. Switched to Netgear and no problems since

I have a TD-W8960N which I use with my iPhone and iPad. I got it to replace the budget stock Telecom Thomson router about a year or so ago. I have it positioned pretty much at the complete opposite end of the house from my bedroom, and with the Thomson the wifi struggled to reach far enough and dropped signal all the time. With it's N capability the TP-Link reaches that far no problem.

It rarely as any issues with losing connection, or needing to be restarted, or anything. I haven't tried AirPlay though, as haven't needed to.

I had a Dlink 2730B, which went OK for about a year, then Airplay stopped working and my Airport Express would not connect to iTunes on my desktop (both wired). The Iphones worked most of the time, but every so often I would have to go to Airplan mode and back again to redo the WiFi.

I replaced it with a TP-Link, everything works perfectly and I have had no issues since.

More or less "ditto", replace Thomson with Belkin.

Thanks everyone,

Brought a TP-Link TD-W8960N today.
Plugged it in, configured for ISP and WiFi security and wirelessly sync'd my wife's iPhone4S
And now I'm playing with XMBC and Airplay, which again, just worked.

Confirmed: The WAG series of Linksys routers, esp. the cheaper ones don't play nice with Apples.
(My workmate has a 300 series that seems to be ok though)

Now for a range test before dig my 8dbi Antenna out of a box and attach it to the new router ...
