Hi all, my son's school laptop has broken and I'm urgently looking for a replacement that I can pick up either today or tomorrow, preferably in the north or west of Auckland.

Here's what I'm after, but I'm flexible on all of these:

  • Asus Vivobook / HP Elitebook or similar, capable of running Win 11
  • Would prefer aluminium over plastic construction, it will get a lot of abuse
  • 16GB+ RAM
  • 14" touch screen if possible
  • Battery must be in reasonable condition to last at least 4-5 hours

TIA

I'm very happy with the one I got from Mint (a couple of months ago).
You could give them a try.

accounts.receivable@mint.net.nz or call us at +64 9 222 0220.

Email address and phone number are not particularly helpful. Can you give a link to a website? Maybe more info on what you got?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I just had to go through this after my year 11's chromebook died and he wanted a windows machine. Was an unpleasent unexpected expense.

I got a 10th Gen HP Elite machine for $499

Ended up buying from this crowd - Tech Crazy: Top Laptops in New Zealand | Find the Best Deals on Laptops

Similar models were between 3 - 500 more expensive at places like pbtech or just laptops.

It came in excellent condition.

From my singular experience about 2 months ago I'd recommend them.

Windows 11 Compatible you are looking at circa $4-500 as they are holding their value with so many devices out there no windows 11 compliant

Below is the only trade me listing, in Auckland Sub $400

Also, ex lease computers are a tricky beast, you need to ensure they have been correctly offboarded from the Autopilot deployment profile by their previous IT crowd otherwise you have a door stop (Unless you run Linux)

Apologies for not supplying it with a spoon...

The website is the last section of the email address.
The website (when I looked a few weeks ago) still says it's being re-done.

So I gave you a phone number to let you check if they have anything currently.
Stuff comes off-lease in fits & starts.

They offered about 20 machines here on Geekzone and for what it's worth...
I got a very nice HP Elitebook / Win11 with a new HP charger - for 300 $.
If I remember correctly.

I was impressed with them - how what they did matched what they said - hence my suggestion.

Best of luck.

Oh hey, that's us.

We have some Elitebook 840 G6's - they will all appear on Geekzone once they're wiped and ready, but could probably sort one for you tomorrow if needed.

i5 / 16GB RAM / 256GB SSD / No touch screens sorry / batteries are generally good, but untested at this stage.

I have a EliteBook x360 830 that mostly meets your requirements if you're interested. (It's only 13" and I'm based South).
PM if you're interested.
