richms: I saw some resitor strips in little clear pages in a folder somewhere. Looked like quite a nice way of storing things.

Lots of people sell them on ebay, you can buy blank pages and folders or the ones pre-populated. Adafruit also sell both the populated and empty books.

The other thing we've done for SMT components (15 years ago) was clear film holders and a sheet of timber drilled with holes.

From the era of films - I still use those milk small canisters - unfortunately have not many left after all those years....

After researching all the options I've purchased 6 x 25-compartment vertical storage boxes from Bunnings (about $12 each).
highlights
1. drawers will not easily fall off
2. components from adjacent drawers will never mix :)
lowlights:
1. The designers of those boxes decided that one would only hang them to the wall and have not really thought about stacking them vertically (they are not square in profile). But couple of velcro dots on the top end of each level them up and keep together at the same time.
2. handles on those small drawers are too small for a man
3. although transparent - you would not easily see whether you have any components left in there

Done and dusted - color labels are attached and resistors have now new home. Back to inventing real stuff...

Its not that they dont think you will want to stack them, its that the mold would be way more expensive if you do decide to just stack them.

Do you have a link to the ones you ended up getting?

Similar to what I have. Did you get drawer dividers as well ?
I did get 3 sets of resistors in each drawer, in the E12 series.
Anything in the E24 went into the closest E12 value.

Did much the same for caps. Though larger electros have their own bin. Ditto with lager resistors.

However, with semi's, I'd never quite worked out a plan. I'd have compartments for the commonly used items (74xx00, 4011, IN4004, 555 etc), but then separated any 1-2-off's into their own category - AND/NAND / PIC / COUNTER / SCR / TRIAC / V-regs / 2N3904 / NPN switch / PNP Switch / TO3 power / TO220 Power.

Then there are switches, buttons, fuses, leds, DIL resistors, relays, thermistors, plugs , sockets, inductors, opto isolators, etc ..
