Yep fair enough - openHAB is a steep learning curve and requires a fair bit of time to get setup. I would do plenty of research into the Fibaro controllers - I am not sure how easy it is to integrate into other protocols and systems. In saying that I have never played with a full HC2 so can't really comment with any authority.

hmmm it looks like Fibaro disabled plugins a year ago and havent said when they will be back.... maybe ill look at openhab again.... sigh.... so much work....

openHAB v2 is close to being ready, and the new version of the Z-Wave binding has just been released. Allows for much easier config, including device discovery and UI configuration (rather than trying to work out the command classes to use etc). It is still a WIP so there will be bugs but might be worth looking at? v2 should be a BIG step towards easier configuration. But all your existing rules and sitemaps should still work.

Haven't tried it myself, system is too much in PRODUCTION to risk touching it at the moment!

Yes - especially considering we were in Nelson for a mates wedding a very long way from home. Ended up being stuck in the Nelson neo natal unit for a month before they could transfer us back to ChCh. Very good story for the 21st!

ben you know where in NZ I could buy a Gen5 Z-Stick? $120ish isnt much to risk on something, $1400 is :)

filled out all my info, last step of checkout and they dont take credit card or Paypal. Only bank transfer. such a PITA, PITA because it takes an extra day to clear.

Really? Didn't realise that - bugger. Send them an email, they might be looking to add that. I know bank transfers are preferrable, no fees! But I reckon I was about 98% PayPal at Smart Things.

luckily I have a kiwibank account i keep a couple of hundred in (they do quicker transfer than my main bank) so was able to instant transfer with that. but yeah, they really need at least paypal, so much easier.

ok, wish me luck, hopefully I can get it work, going to install the latest (might even do version 2) on a raspberrypi. my main openhab is running on a windows server still.

It has a registration form that wants personal information, so yes it is sensitive information.
