@K8Toledo, how much for 100m of CAT6?

For a new build, get a 300m roll..... You will use more than 100m....

Perhaps...depends on the premises. :)

[The garage wall. I havent met with the sparky yet, so am trying to get everything sorted before meeting them

I would look at getting a conduit run before they pour the slab and get them the run the Fibre into the storage cupboard area, then everything is a shorter run and will you get more bang for your Cat 6 buck....

If you had to run cables to each red point from an external garage wall you are looking at 9 runs @8-10 m + 5-6 metres to get up and down the walls ( on average) means 9 runs at say 14 meters = 126 m - 10 metres for the roof moutings = ~115

If you go to a central ONT you can get away with 4 long runs ( 10-15 metres) but 5 short 5m ones, (+ the wall up/down) meaning less than well under 100m

( all are back of envelope calculations )

Thanks for that. I was also wondering the same thing, but that would mean losing a storage cupboard. I dont think the other half would be too happy about that lol. Think I'd have just have longer runs of cat6

You wont loose cupboard space , [you are not installing a rack mount or anything :)]

Get a small comms board installed into the cupboard wall and its all done. out of sight,  no loss of space

Oh really, I thought it might have taken up room, with a patch panel etc. But this side of tech I have no idea on, and am keen to know about!

Thanks for the info I have asked about a conduit run before the slab.

Just an update, if anyone has 100m of speaker cable sitting around they want to part with please let me know.

I would have thought the house build comes with a comms board enclosure, but cant see it on my list. I might get one just in case. Does anyone have one for sale?

Thanks

Not sure if you have purchased the stereo / av gear yet or not, but if interested in either Denon/Marantz or Onkyo/Integra for av receivers and KEF or Wharefedale/B&W I can sort out some pricing for you if you wish. PM me if interested with model numbers

Omg I'm so sorry, I thought I had replied and up to date with posts etc.

The builder said I might not be able to provide my own speaker cable/ cat6 due to warranty /master builder guarantee, but will need to talk to electrician (which will be once consent is given)
I will also ask about owner supply patch port and cabinet

Due to the build credit diminishing pretty fast, I will try and persuade for owner supply/install on these as I'm sure materials would be cheaper second hand.

I do already have speakers (would love to upgrade, but def no chance for a while),
Receiver and projector.

I am still interested in getting eufy cameras @rodimus if you're able to get a price for me please?

All the other things I will definitely report back once I've spoken to sparky /project manager.

Sorry and thanks

Supporting locals I purchased my EUFY from here: Price seemed cheaper than elsewhere..

https://www.bunnings.co.nz/eufy-cam-plus-2-pack-plus-entry-sensor_p0188147

A few notes:

-this doesn't give you 24/7 recording motion triggering only.

-The unit connects wirelessly to a base wifi unit so I presume all your cameras would have to be in range of that one base unit.

+the two way mic and human recognition is great but position your cameras to suit.

+Motion sensitivity/zones and away home/geofencing is available too.

+I'm happy with the triggering at the moment.

Other notes on House wiring:

Don't forget to run a cable just in case for your doorbell/camera doorbell.

Just a quick update. My project manager has said I can run my own cat6 / speaker cable (which is good and bad cos I'll have to buy/supply my own gear)

I think I will run cat6 from ONT in garage to comms in hallway cupboard (thats what sparky said to do)

So after lots of reading, I think this is my plan / things I now also need.

1) Recessed Network enclosure (will this fit my Eufy Homebase, Philips Hue bridge, modem, switch, patch panel?)

2) Switch (Would I need one with 2 x POE for my Unify APs or do I have that wrong?)

3) Patch Panel

4) wall plates

5) RJ45 connectors

6) is my current Modem sufficient? Netgear D6400

7) punchdown krone / tool

8) crimper

If anyone has any for sale (or can recommend any), please let me know. This is all new to me, so trying to learn.

Thanks
