Handle9:

C-clip is the term generically, a bit like gib. C-clip is a clipsal trademark.

You can also get gib mounted flush box, they also work well if you want a back on the box.

I have found them to be crap, the plastic is thin and brittle, and if you open the back up to be able to get cables in without kinking them, the box will fold as the clamps pull up to the wall surface making the gap between plate and wall even larger.

All good. I'd still think a grommet of some sort is better in your scenario over brush plates. It's a smaller, more discrete hole in the gib, and easier to patch if needed in the future. You can buy grommets locally or Aliexpress.

Hell you could easily make something from stuff lying around the house if so inclined, e.g. neck of a plastic coke bottle lid. Cut just below the the collar/lip. Screw/twist it into gib hole you drilled. Will protect the gib from crumbling or being damaged. You could paint it if you like. Big enough for the RJ45 connector. Add some cut out foam, glue or silicone to seal around the cable.
