Yep in an ideal world it would be HTTPS, but I can think of dozens of sites that require signup/registration that are not. As long as the payment gateway is secure I am generally happy. Appreciate others might be more careful. In 2.5 years of operation however, I never once had anyone complain about my site not being HTTPS.

Think it is probably a little harsh to label them *super amateur* just because of that.

So much wrong with their T&C its not funny too.

You will be responsible for the return shipping costs of the faulty item.

The warranty will be void if the item is identified through our evaluation as having been found to be taken apart, misused, used in a way that it was not designed for or (where applicable) installed by a non-qualified electrician*.

*It is a requirement under New Zealand law to ensure that in-wall mains voltage products are correctly installed by certified electrical professionals. When evaluating these products for warranty replacement we may request a written statement confirming the installation was in line with the manufactures instructions. Failure to provide this from a certified electrician may void your warranty.

For all warranty claims you must provide the item to us with all accessories and manual unless we have advised otherwise.

The postage to send the item back to us is the responsibility of the buyer however we understand the inconvenience it may cause so we will cover the postage back to you with the repaired or replaced item for the first replacement. Subsequent warranty claims the buyer is responsible for all postage cost.

The warranty is strictly for product replacements only so Active Automation is not responsible for any costs incurred by you to return the products back to us including but not limited to postage, time, and effort as well costs for professional trade person(s) to remove and reinstall the product(s).

With that much CGA flouting terms I would rather just buy from overseas at a lower price.

I was using the binding until my system started to crap out over the last couple of months, somethign I was going to look at over xmas holidays but got busy with other stuff. I pulled out 3 zwave modules from my bedrooms because they were dimmers and I couldnt get LED bulbs working with them. The stuff that really works great for me is door locks, cameras, motion sensors in hallways, turning lights on when the tv is switched off in the lounge at night etc. But those 4in1 motion sensors are a PITA and wont always work with the vera or zwave stick. So I figure if I go for the Fibaro its a much more polished product and hopefully everything will work. But the price will make me do lots of homework before hand. I'm also wanting to integrate it into an alarm system, so if someone enters a pin on the front door lock the alarm is automatically turned off etc.

IMO openHAB could be great, but its just so much work, once its running sure its great, but during the initial setup/if something breaks it becomes a nightmare, and just something I dont want to spend my time on (I have enough crap around the house to spend my time on :)).

What alarm brand/model are you wanting to integrate with? I am just looking to get a new alarm that I can integrate with a home automation system, but haven't found it easy to figure out which brands might have an API that can be accessed. In my case the ideal scenario is that there is a public API so that I can write software for my Windows Phone that will be able to lock and unlock the alarm, but at the very least being able to integrate with a home automation system would be great.

I have the same thoughts about openHAB. I want something that just works. I am willing to spend a little bit to get something that configures relatively easily, but it's quite easy to get into ridiculous money as well.

just an update, have openhab 1.8 (couldnt get zwave working on 2.0 beta 2) with the gen5 stick. its working so much better than the old black stick (which looks exactly the same just new one is white, oh and new one is always flashing/blinking red/orange/blue).

running on a raspberry pi, working without issue. bought a fibaro motion sensor (so much better than the aeotec 4in1s, i only have one of those working and its only working cos its powered by usb not batteries...). picking up a second fibaro tomorrow and tkb 4 in 1 door/motion sensor (figures when I finally get around to buying zwave stuff Ben closes up shop :P, so Im buying from activeautomation).

still need the vera for the zwave deadlocks, and possible the zwave garage opener (its a PITA to unpair/pair that so might just leave it since its working and its right next to the vera).

milights are a PITA and for some reason the openhab binding keeps dimming all lights when it should be dimming a certain light (binding is setup correctly, with proper group...)

I really dislike the milights, theyre cheap and it shows. But ive had a few LED bulbs die on me after a year or so of use, so dont really want to spend $100 on a zwave bulb. Aeotec have a new dimmable switch coming out soon which says works with any bulb (including led and dimmable leds). So will get one of those to try out if they make them for the NZ frequency. I had to pull out all my old dimmable zwave switches because all the LED bulbs I put in them would always be on or they would always be super dim. Having to use zwave + milight currently for one room, which is unreliable.

also for presence/geofence stuff, I had to also include wifi detection on my phone/watch and do a 3 minute cooldown period to say ive left. My phones GPS would randomly teleport me a few KMs away (I think to the cell tower) causing OwnTracks to say I had left then I was back, then I left, then I was back. Which would cause my home alarm to turn on/off/on/off and lights off etc. That doesnt seem to be a owntracks issue but rather an android issue (ios has similar issues apparently).

but once again I have my hallway lights turning on/off by motion, my office lights turn on when it gets dark and im at my computer or when i enter the room and they stay on when my computer is in use (no motion, but knows im using the computer). my sons bedroom light goes dim and becomes a nightlight automatically and turns off completely at 11pm. wardrobe light turns on when door is opened, and off when closed. going to try and tackle the bathroom light tomorrow it the TKB 4in1. hopefully can detect presence when door is closed to use the "wasp in a box" algorithm (which never worked with the 4in1s, due to crappy detection issues). If that doesnt work, will look at using a trip sensor thingy, since I will be breaking the beam by walking around the bathroom (activeautomation have a zwave one I believe).

ok that was longer than I was expecting to write...

tl;dr its mostly working now with openhab and the gen5 stick.

Thanks for the update reven, I should have brought the Gen 5 Z stick and the Gen 5 MultiSensor 6 from Ben at Christmas when he had his sale.

Sounds like the Fibaro units are better than Aeotec (though I would expect the newer 6-1 to be better than the 4-1 )

I have also been reading about the ESP8266 (also known as NodeMCU) but the Aeotech 6-1 would be a lot neater especially since they now have a recessed version.

Just getting back into Openhab after giving up and being busy with other things.

Currently I’m trying to getting scenes to work with my Harmony Hub.
