Thanks team! The teen and I spent most of the day - very carefully - installing the new kit. She is both stoked at the performance and really took an active interest about how all the parts of a PC come together. Which could well turn into an expensive hobby. But at this stage, money very well spent!
I do see what you mean about them running hot though! I ran Cinebench for a bit to soften up the old thermal paste and couldn't get the old chip beyond 60. 5800X3D went pretty much straight to 90 so upgraded cooling could well be the next cab off the rank.
I've rechecked mine and it's similar. Going absolute flat out it throttles at 90, but all other circumstances of daily use it sits happily at around 75 under load.
