Some time ago someone asked about a night light that is also a torch and will automatically switch on when the power fails.  I've searched for the post but could not find it, so instead posting a new thread.

Just clarifying I am not selling it, I'm just pointing to a shop which has it for sale and can also buy+mail it for you at cost.

Hammer Hardware in Apirana Road, Glen Innes, Auckland has a night light with torch which automatically turns on when the power fails.  It has a lithium rechargeable battery and not a NiMH/NiCd (with trickle charging killing the battery in 12 months).  Retails for $25.  I go there every Thursday to take my son for gymnastics, send me a PM if you want me to buy you one (you pay of cause ;-).  I saw the packaging is discoloured so the stock is not moving, and there are 5 to 10 on the shelf.  But it looks like a good product.

Saw a torch at bunnings that claimed to do that. Was in the wairau one (that they inexplicably call glenfield) and in the center aisle near the timber panels. I will grab a pic of it if I go back today to get more lights (but I am feeling pretty crap still so perhaps not)
