Hi all,
Been pricing these up, and can't justify 430-460 odd for a kit of 2 units + 2x10meter shielded cables.
So looking for a couple of used units if possible.

sbiddle: Why are you bothering with shielded cable? It's not going to give any benefit unless you're in a high thunderstorm area.
sbiddle: I've installed a couple of hundred of these now and never had an issue.
sbiddle: Yip, but clearly you need outdoor rated cat5e if the radio will be outdoors.

How are are you going? Do you actually need ns rather than loco's?
I also agree with Steve, I've got them on shielded and unshielded and they work ok.
Aaroona: Hey mate - mate is adamant about the N ones, he simply wants the fastest speed possible (which I kind of have to agree with). That would probably be the only reason.
Will have to have a look for some outdoor rated cable..!

I've got a set of the loco's doing 180mbit. The limiting factor is the 100mbit interface.
The issue is the range. My loco's are running 600m. I've got NSM5's running a couple of km. The NS is higher power OP and the gain on the antenna is higher. Again, the limiting factor is the 100mbit interface on them.
How much cable are you actually needing and are you needing the plugs on it or are you going to do that yourself?
DonGould: ya, ok now I'm getting scared about how limited this LOS isn't. What's in the way? Trees? Buildings?
I will agree the NS will punch though more than the loco.
D
Aaroona: A little bit of a hill/trees.
Standing on the deck where we would be mounting the unit at my mates, I can see our apartments roof (3 storey's high). So I don't think it'll be too bad.
Put it this way, half watt UHF radios can make the distance without much issue. (probably not the best comparison, but unfortunately I've got no way to test to see if it'll work)

Ya the UHF radio can't be compared at all. It's way to low freq.
If you can see the roof then you know where you're going to be putting these units... on the deck and roof.
I've got radios up trees to get line of site.
