I have a 2.5 PATA drive (looks like a 44 (43) pin IDE male connector) from a dead laptop and I need to copy the data off. So I either need a converter/adaptor/bridge to SATA or a laptop that takes PATA drives. I know there are adaptors around as I sold one on  the back of an HDD a while agoYell...
Some people don't realise that their drive is pata because the adaptors look like part of the drive...
I'd be willing to pay a few bucks for an adaptor, but I only need it for a few hours max to copy the data to another drive.
Any help or advice appreciated too Laughing

I had the same issue once. Unfortunately the only solution for me was to grab one off Trademe. I paid $40, although the amount of use I have had out of it since is fantastic. I would recommend purchasing your own one. Then you can help your friends and yourself take data off old drives ;).

Have you done the job yet?

I use a multi-configuration hard disk dock for these tasks, so easy.

I can copy from one drive to another (or flash drive/CD etc) for you if in Wellington.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I dont' really want to spend more than $10. That IDE to USB looks like a good option tho'.
Cheers.

This worked out well:

Good trader, good price and it works! So for $10 I have an external drive now and got the data off (note that this needs two usb ports to function - power requirements I guess).

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
