Looking to buy a SPDIF which will suit my Asus M2N VM DVI motherboard

Unsure whether 3 or 4 pin.. I assume 4

Pin configuration on motherboard is:

+ _ S G

Key:
+ = +5V

_ = empty pin

S = SPDIF OUT

G = Ground

Would prefer a module with both Tos-link and RCA; but if I cannot find this, then RCA only will suffice

Hopefully someone out there has one :)

Hey, have you listed a price, location and how much shipping would be to other parts of New Zealand? Also if you are asking for a PM make sure your Privacy settings allow your account to receive PM otherwise people can't contact you.

If you're just wanting SPDIF it's literally a few minutes work to make your own cable with an RCA socket and some header connectors.

I have one from a Gigabyte motherboard. Has both RCA and Toslink. Might be compatible. I'll try to find it and let you know the pinout.

Trawling through my box of oddities this morning; I did find this:

The cable connects to what is labelled as "OPTICAL IN/OUT"

There is also another connection (but no cable) labelled "SPDIF IN" with 2 pins

My receiver supports RCA In

If I wanted to make my own cable; could I use an old CD - motherboard (unsure of proper name) audio cable. If I did this; how do I wire the 2 pin to 3 pin on the mobo?. Or what can I do?

(sorry - new to SPDIF)

or http://www.amazon.com/SPDIF-RCA-Plate-Cable-Bracket/dp/B0035J9Z7W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370218127&sr=8-1&keywords=SPDIF+back+plate

If you don't have an account.. create one :-)

It seems sourcing them new in NZ is pretty hard but a few years ago they where quite popular and easy to get. Saying that someone on geekzone as above should have one sitting around doing nothing.

You need to make the cable connect the "G" pin on the motherboard connector to the shield (outside) of the RCA plug and the "S" pin to the inside of the RCA plug. You can probably use a CD audio cable to do that, assuming the plug fits on to the header on the motherboard. Use the "SPDIF IN" socket as it will be easier to position the plug, and make sure you don't mix up Ground and Signal.

Here's a guide to making your own which should help (but your motherboard pins may be different from theirs): http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/333711-S-PDIF-connectors-and-making-your-own-MB-S-PDIF-connector

I have the same motherboard in my mediacenter pc. Not using the SPDIF module, so if you still want it (and I can find it) DM me!

I have several spare SPDIF cables from our old myPVR builds.

Ping me and I can sort you out.
