Hey, have you listed a price, location and how much shipping would be to other parts of New Zealand? Also if you are asking for a PM make sure your Privacy settings allow your account to receive PM otherwise people can't contact you.

Hi folks,

Just FYI - Nearly got scammed after I got a TXT on my mobile asking if car is still on sale, I had following email conversation. The latest email is where I realized its a SCAM, BEWARE other potential sellers listing on trade me, we need to be very cautious. Thought I will share..

Hi, Nice Hearing back from you..I have looked at it a few times now, and i'm satisfied with the condition and the price... I just moved to the United Kingdom, where this is needed and i will be making use of a private shipping agency to have this picked up from you and have it delivered to my address..I would appreciate if you could send me some pictures and capture all the scratches and imperfections of the car's body in order for me to confirm its present condition (if available), since i won't be able to inspect and test drive the car in person at your address... So i will be paying directly into your PayPal account without any delay, and i will be adding the 3.4% PayPal surcharge to the total amount i will be paying you... I hope you have a PayPal account...If you have one already, just send me the address which is the email address you use for it or you can send me a PayPal money request, so once i receive the details i will go ahead with the payment through PayPal and then i will contact my shipping agency after you get the payment. I will need your home address or nearest port for the ride to be Picked up by the Shipping agency... I want you to know that i have made an arrangement with the courier shipping agency coming to pick up the Car and i signed a note of authorization with them so their courier representative can sign for the necessary documentation on my behalf.  So, concerning the issue of the documentations of the car and the signing, I want you to know that an arrangement has been made with a courier company to pick up the Car and the representative that will be coming will bring along the copy of my personal identification and all necessary legal paperwork for you to have full data to make the change of ownership and the representative will be the signatory to the documents as I have signed a note of authorization with his company... Further arrangements will be made with you in regards to the pick up of the Car once i have paid you...I'll be looking forward to hearing back from you soon.. Best Regards,Mrs.Hanna

Hi, Thanks for your email.  I have owned it for about 3 years now, I am the first and only owner of this car since it came to NZ from Japan. I have been the only driver as well and have kept it with best possible care. I have not faced any problems with it either, selling because I have upgraded to another car.  It has been regularly serviced at AA Henderson only, unfortunately, I have not saved all service records because I didn't have intention to sell and didn't know that those papers should be retained. The last service was done about 6000 Km ago so you can still drive another 4000 km before next service.  The body condition is very good, no dents or issues that I can see. You can also see from photos that its in very good condition without any physical damage.  My asking price for this car is $6999.00 or a nearby genuine cash offer.  Please let me know if you are interested further.
CheersAnkit

I see, so it's quite common.

Should I be reporting this anywhere or just stay shut and ignore any further emails from them?

Pretty much don't contact them again. If they do email again, just say its sold.

I had this about 7 years ago when selling a WRX. I picked up it was a scam on the first email and decided to toy them along for a while. It got to the point where he actually sent me a cheque in the mail for $30,000 before I took it all down to the police. Thought I would let him waste a bit of money on the postage of the cheque from the UK.

My opinions are purely my own and are not at all those of my employer 2degrees.

It's a very common scam. Not too much you can do about it unfortunately.

I saw something once where some scambaiters led one of these along and managed to get something out of them for the freight (for an Apple computer) and sent them something like a cardboard box with an apple drawn on it. Funny.
