Hi Guys,

Looking for a GPS repeater. We have a GPS aerial on the roof with a cable coming down and need something that will repeat that signal out so that multiple devices will get the signal.

Anyone know where to get something like that in NZ?

Hey, have you listed a price, location and how much shipping would be to other parts of New Zealand? Also if you are asking for a PM make sure your Privacy settings allow your account to receive PM otherwise people can't contact you. Also note if you are selling something we ask you to offer to other members first. Links to private sales (including Trade Me posts) aren't accepted anymore and will be removed.

Ah indeed. Why do you need GPS indoors? Some GPS devices do have external antenna jack.

GPS relies on receiving signals from multiple satellites to calculate the position, if you find a way to get those signals from the areal on the roof and retransmit them you'd only get the position of the areal on your devices since that's where the signals are being received.

Also it's not accurate enough for indoor navigation, unless you have a L2 receiver, in which case you should have no trouble getting a signal indoors anyway.

Don't know if I agree with this entirely.....
Indoor reliability is determined by the building structure and materials amongst other things. Suffice to say GPS is not intended for indoor use.

When you're in your home, you usually know where your are. ......

use of these devices overseas can typically include fire stations ro allow lock to be achieved before the truck leaves the parking bay. So getting that lock is the useful thing. Another use is testing labs to allow for indoor tests without exiting the building

this is the exact scenario i will be using it in. Was hoping someone could just tell me where to get one vs a long thread about how it should or should not be used.

It's more a case of taking interest in what your doing / trying to achieve and possibly helping with any alternate options. Always good to post as much info and background as possible in your first post. Remember we are geeks, and we like to know what other geeks are doing :)
