Hi, after a first smartphone for my mum to take overseas (UK) and use here on her return, telecom 850/2100 , need a very good contrasty screen outdoors, decent build quality and good camera to possibly replace her cheapo canon powershot.

A tidy 2nd-hand S3 would be great if anyone has otherwise Ill get a Moto G off Amazon but the camera on that is mediocre they say. Let me know price, I know S3 is a bit better than Moto G
Dont mind scuffed back and mid bezel as I think I can replace them cheaply, but screen and front bezel must be pretty mint

Would consider S2 also.

Hey, have you listed a price, location and how much shipping would be to other parts of New Zealand? Also if you are asking for a PM make sure your Privacy settings allow your account to receive PM otherwise people can't contact you. Also note if you are selling something we ask you to offer to other members first. Links to private sales (including Trade Me posts) aren't accepted anymore and will be removed.

Something worth considering if using it overseas that the Moto G can have dual sim cards allowing her to have a local sim as well as her Telecom NZ sim.

I think you will still want a camera, as mobiles aren't great for low light shooting. Although my s3 has a flash, I never use it because it produces a horrible colour of light. A cheap point and shoot should be better than many cameras on mobiles.

Thx I was wondering about that, a good phone camera vs likes of a 3 year old cheapest canon powershot, I know phones are limited in low light situations but wondering for general outdoors snaps if theres much diff, anyway thx Ill consider a good camera a bonus at this stage

If it's the Moto E then forget it..

You can get a good qulaity canon ixus powershot, which will produce far better photos for less than $200 on special these days. However I find the s3 phto quality for outdoor shots ok, but probably no better the cheapest dedicated digital camera. The advantage of a phone though is they have gps tagging, dropbox auto upload etc to the net,  and you don't have to carry two devices. Personally if I was travelling I would want both a camera and phone, although it does depend on what is being photographed.

farns: There is a dual-sim moto G on amazon, I guess its the same otherwise

http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-XT1033-Quad-Core-Factory-Unlocked/dp/B00I34W4TU

Do u mean the Noel Leeming one is dual-sim? Guess I should ask them

I never heard of Moto E but I see its lower spec, still if the screen is very good amoled or non reflective ips and the camera is decent Id consider it if its cheaper than moto G

Anyway a bit off topic, any other suggestions welcome , a Galaxy S2 would be great but no lower

Looks like the Amazon one is the 8 Gig model.  Ad a snapper case to this and shipping  it will be close to the NZ retail price.  I bought my wifes from JBHiFi with case for $299

It was this one but it looks like they have run out  Motorola-moto-g-black-flip-cover

The Moto E info is here  Moto E

I think the main thing you miss on a phone as opposed to a cheap point and shoot is the zoom, even 3x optical is going to be better than most smart phones can do in terms of zoom bar maybe the Lumia 1020

I don't know what screen the Moto G has, but I can confirm that the S3 AMOLED screen is far superior to most other screens in sunlight.

Looking for S3 in good condition if anyone has?

I bought a Moto G off Amazon, nice phone but bad camera is bad, S2 camera is a smidgen worse than S3 (contrast) and I think bigger screen is the go for Mum

Anything else considered with equivalent camera to S3, its the Samsung processing apparently that gives it the edge as likes of Cyanogenmod and google camera make it worse

I can also partial trade for basically new Moto G and a unopened Nexus 10 16gb tablet (less than ebay or amazon price)

An Ativ S maybe, if you don't mind me mentioning Windows phones ? - its basically an S3 in drag.
