Hi,

Continuing my clear out I've got a Fritz Box 7340. Factory reset, seems to be working fine. I've replaced it with a modem that can run in bridge mode (one of the few limitations of the otherwise excellent Fritz Box).

I'm in Auckland but can ship further if necessary. Make me an offer if you're interested.

BTW, at one point someone left something on top of it. The plastic has discoloured slightly (see picture below), presumably from the heat, but I continued using it for some time and it seemed to be working perfectly.

What kind of bugs have you found with the Fritzbox? I'm looking at using one quite heavily with home networking etc so would be good to know of any pitfalls.

Mostly to do with the phone side of things. The worst one is phantom calls. We kept receiving calls, one after another with nothing heard if you picked it up. They'd be recorded in the router's call log as Unknown 'Name/Number' (of the caller) and blank 'Telephony Device' (extension from the Fritz!Box) and 'Telephone Number' (phone service in use). I eventually figured out after some googling that these phantom calls coming in on the PSTN line. This can't be disconnected as there's one port for both DSL and TEL, and even with the fixed line disabled in the settings the Fritz!Box still rings when it thinks there's call on the fixed line. Finally managed to disable this by enabling the fixed line, setting up an answerphone and redirecting all calls on the fixed line to the answerphone. Plenty of posts about this if you search for it, mostly on the Australian Whirlpool forum.

The other main problem with the phone was that my Panasonic KX-TG1611 DECT phones wouldn't connect unless some settings were changed. Unfortunately you couldn't properly change the settings until DECT was enabled, and you couldn't enable DECT without connecting a phone. Finally managed to get around this by setting it up with an old KX-TG1805 phone I had (nearly dead), then changing the settings and connecting the TG1611's. After that it's working fine.

As for the home networking side just be aware that the web interface doesn't give you too much to play with, you'll need to telnet to it and go into the config files to really configure it. Or you could mess around with Freetz (custom firmware).
