Could be mic input, which would be a mono plug and not designed for high audio level input.

I think I've just realised my stupidity. It's the headphone jack on the receiver, which is obviously output not input. Sorry for the confusion and for being such a simpleton.

PS $2.50 isn't expensive, it's the $5 postage that is the problem.

Ah yes it should have, good thinking. I have the Onkyo tx nr515. That makes more sense lol.
