Hey, have you listed a price, location and how much shipping would be to other parts of New Zealand? Also if you are asking for a PM make sure your Privacy settings allow your account to receive PM otherwise people can't contact you. Also note if you are selling something we ask you to offer to other members first. Links to private sales (including Trade Me posts) aren't accepted anymore and will be removed.

joker97: I presume you haven't tried trademe? I'm not sure about selling cars on a geek forum ...

It is on Trademe. Took me couple of months just to make him take photos and put it there. Owner is busy 24x7 for the last many months on their masters and new game development project.  He has absolutely no time to sleep, forgets to eat and does not even think about that car and drives motorbyke.

I am trying to help.

Seems to be in good nick at a competitive price. Good luck.

I sold our 98 GT (not GTT) for $3k a year ago in worse condition with more k's - sold in 2 days, I drive a 2000 GT-T with close to 300,000k's on it.

I think with the push of 2cheap cars there is now a lot of competition.

No worries with the current state of the dollar car prices will start to rise eventually.

I see the WOF is listed as expired.

You might get more interest if you either get a WOF or state "a new WOF will be provided when sold" so a potential buyer doesn't worry about the car being unwarrantable.

Hi Ruki - just want to say that I enjoyed having a poke around on your son's website/blog. He seems a geek to be proud of - I like his bravery in tackling jobs like pulling digital cameras apart & general tech skill level.
On another note, I used to have a Caldina also & found it to be a great, reliable workhorse... oh, and I see that this thread is back on the front page of GZ again... :)

Cheers,
Mike

i've got a caldina SW as my bash around car for the surfboards/beach gear ...usually has a centimeter of sand in the boot and saltwater drip trails down the sides.....brilliant car, just goes all the time, no issues outside normal wear and tear.  No rust yet surprisingly.

yours looks like a great example, cannot believe it has not sold yet.

i used to have a caldina too, sold couple of months back for about 1.8, a bit higher on the kms.

so i would say, one has to be a bit reasonable in terms of pricing, look whats out there in the market, what are alternatives, what are the dealers offering, what are others offering.

if you are priced high, no one would bother.

if you are priced same, people will watch, but not many would be interested. a few might come for test drive and negotiate.

if you are priced cheapest, you will actually see some action and it ll be out of the door, faster.

Cars are depreciating asset, there is tonnes of competition in the market and loads of newer, better alternatives. i feel its priced a bit high considering kms, yr etc , so u might want to look at your price.

My father used to say: "we are not that rich to buy cheap stuff". You'll see the point if you read between the lines below....
He had only one car for over 20 years which he bought brand new after being granted government award for the series of books about New Zealand.
He surely took care about that car, have changed oil regularly - every 10000km.
I was always summoned for that oil change and that was the car I learned how to drive.
When he passed away and the buyer for the car turned in, the buyer said, – "It is old, but I will buy it if it starts from the first attempt"... And it surely did.

I know few mechanics in Wellington, Hamilton and Auckland who shared sad stories about different cars they were asked to fix.
All those cars had dead engines. "Oil has never been changed in those... owners truly believed that one should only top it up".

Those mechanics did not realise that this practice was even possible.
e.g. In Japan oil is changed regularly and “top-up” practice is unheard of.
Those 3 mechanics gained their experience in the other part of the world where people are very frugal and have a habit of taking care about their car because that car may be the only car they would have in their life.
So that practice which they have discovered has just blown their mind.

This Caldina was imported from Japan, so the oil was changed regularly while in Japan, then being owned by mechanic in Auckland, who took care of it and while in our ownership had Mobil Semi Synthetic (expensive) changed every 10.000 km.

Perhaps when you buy one of those cars where oil was just topped up - they could be cheap.

That is the reason why I personally would never ever buy second hand "New Zealand New" car as I have reasonable doubts to believe that there is a big chance the engine oil has been just topped-up and never changed in those. IMHO
