I have two brand-shiny-new SIM cards for UK network "giffgaff" which is the prepaid arm of O2. Free except for the postage. First some first served, PM me.

These are ordinary multi-size SIMs, just punch out the size you need - and then you go online and activate them using the code printed on the SIM, then it tells you the phone number and you can load credit etc. The credit doesn't expire, and the phone only needs to be used once every 6 months to keep the number alive. Perfect if you live in NZ and visit the UK once in a while and want to keep the same local number each time - drop the SIM into a phone here and let it roam (works - I've tried it). Just send a text once every 6 months from here to keep it alive.

Yeah you can get these on arrival at the airport in the UK but I arranged to get some sent to me here as I was arranging a big UK trip which needed a local phone number for some of the events I was planning. So I got them sent to a relative there, who then forwarded them to me. They don't normally send them to non-UK addresses

I used mine extensively in the UK on my vacation up there this year and they worked fine - 3G speeds are nothing to rave about due to population density, we're spoiled here - but at £15.00 for a "goodybag" which lasts a month and gives you 5G of 3G data, and unlimited texts and 500 mins of calling, the're fairly inexpensive.

Hey, have you listed a price, location and how much shipping would be to other parts of New Zealand? Also if you are asking for a PM make sure your Privacy settings allow your account to receive PM otherwise people can't contact you. Also note if you are selling something we ask you to offer to other members first. Links to private sales (including Trade Me posts) aren't accepted anymore and will be removed.

Just to clarify, the ones I'm passing on are unused... the phone company sent me more than I needed.

Can they get activated and topped up with a nz card and accepting incoming calls and SMS while roaming?

I tried in the past to get a card from overseas, but it was not able to be activated overseas which meant I couldnt use it.

Yes to both questions.

I had 3x sim cards (one for each family member) sent to a relative's house in the UK ahead of my holiday, by ordering them online. They were free. The SIM cards were sent to my relatives as they won't send SIMs outside the UK. I had them on-sent.

When they arrived in NZ, I did the online activation and loaded the SIM with £20 credit using my NZ credit card no problem. Then I put it into my spare phone and turned it on. Took a while but it locked onto a Roaming signal "NZ Comms" (so 2Degrees) and I was able to send and receive text messages, albeit at roaming rates of course.

Then when I went to the UK I put the SIM in my main phone and turned it on at Heathrow and it worked perfectly.

The phone co got enthusiastic and sent me three more SIMs for me to give away to friends - if these SIMs are activated, then I get a £5 bonus credit and so does the new card.

So I decided to keep one of the spare SIMs for my tablet, for next time I go over, and pass the other two on to anyone who wants it.

The main value proposition here is simply being able to have a UK number that you can advertise ahead of time. In my case, planning an extensive family reunion over there (which I've just come back from) I was booking hotels and rental cars and so forth online and they all wanted a local number - if I waited until arrival to pick up a SIM at the airport then I wouldn't know my local number until I arrived.

Make sense?
