Xmas is round the corner and to count down the days I've decided to give away a SpeakMediaASR licence each day till xmas.

What's that you ask, SpeakMediaASR is the speech engine for SpeakMediaPro the voice activated media player that lets you say it to play it. So if you like the sound of that and can meet these simple requirments Windows XP or Vista, Windows Media Player , lots of media and a desktop microphone.

Just download and install SpeakMediaPro from idlearts which comes with a 14 day trial of SpeakMediaASR
then reply with some outlandish xmas reason why I should give you a free license and I'll pick from the first 5 replies each day.
and issue a license for the best reply.

I had a play with this a few weeks ago and loved it!

Just one question however (and I realise this isn't 0900 support!) - have you used this in a car environment at all? If so is there a way to have a microphone that's always switched on and have a "magic word" that can activate the voice mode rather than having a button to press? This wouuld obviously save having to have a button to press in the car and could mean the PC could run without a display, simply OS + WMP.

Yes it was designed for automotive use from touchsrcreens.

I'm about to start working on a DSP algorithim so you'll be able to use it in the car with the stereo going fill tit, I figure if the PC knows what its saying it can subtract it from the voice signal but will be a tricky algorithim.

Currently if I let the ASR engine listen all the time it'll consume a lot of cpu and then theres the distinct chance it'll respond to lyrics in songs which may result in a rather random play list.

Good luck! That sounds very cool!

A barebones car pc with a small VFD on the dash showing the current track information and voice activation would be very cool indeed. I'm getting a new car soon so won't have any money to build one up but am keen on doing this in a few months time.

The cheap option is to use a laptop and just plug in a tft but you'd probably need an to run the laptop from an inverter
