I am after a cheap fan heater, low profile ie wider than high. Probably too expensive to post so I would hope to pick up. Anything lurking in the attic?

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

I have 2 or 3 medium sized oil column heaters that were dropped off at my place 2 years ago for someone else to pick up.  They are still under my house.  I think one is missing wheels.  Zero warranty and absolutely as-is-where-is.  Te Atatu pickup.

If OP doesn't want them, someone else is welcome.

Needs to be low profile, ie wider than height.

Thanks but needs to be a small fan heater.

In all seriousness these things are dirt cheap new now. Mitre 10 is another that's worth a look if you can't find anything secondhand. I am personally a bit cautious with these when they get a bit older in respect of a fire hazard, or maybe it's just me being paranoid.

I find that the cheap ones need about a 2 yearly replacement cycle, they get rattly and noisy with the motor, and in one of them the thermostat decided that it would go nuts and start to make the room a sauna till it was backed off a tiny amount, then it became a fridge.

Check out freecycle.org - Great place to move on unwanted items or request things. As the name suggests its for stuff you give away for free.

Never heard off that resource. Checked. 4 give-away adds in Auckland. Two seeking - one is looking for a car :-) No fan heaters. Would be surprised if anyone would go through registration (required) to be bothered of listing $20 device to give it away....

I bought mine (flat small horisonatal) at either Mitre 10 or Bunnings (can't remember) was about $23 or $27.  For fire safety reasons - I would suggest to go with the new one - I had two mulfunctioned before.

I to would buy one new.

Regarding Freecycle here in Dunedin I get regular (multiple daily) emails of things being given away. I find they don't last - people snap them up within 15 mins of being offered (everyone likes free stuff it seems). YMMV in different cities.

I often use for things I'd otherwise dump or donate or just don't need around the house.
