I'm aware there are a few of these in schools and other workplaces being upgraded (presumably to the AC versions). Keen to discuss before it goes on Trademe if anyone has one to sell.

Preference for standard UAP but would consider UAP-LR or UAP-PRO. Looks like the UAP and UAP-LR are going for $60-80 on TM.

I'm in Christchirch but would be happy to pay for postage.

Cheers.

Hey, have you listed a price, location and how much shipping would be to other parts of New Zealand? Also if you are asking for a PM make sure your Privacy settings allow your account to receive PM otherwise people can't contact you. Also note if you are selling something we ask you to offer to other members first. Links to private sales (including Trade Me posts) aren't accepted anymore and will be removed.

Are you looking for one UAP or more?

I have a single UniFi AP and an unused three-pack of UniFi AP LR, mint condition in original packaging

People are ripping out UniFi kit because of all the issues they're having and replacing it with other brands. Unless you're a UniFi expert and very careful about firmware versions it's not hardware I'd recommend at present (and that's coming from somebody who's installed huge numbers of them)

Point taken. Any particular firmware to avoid, or particular online material I can read to better understand what these issues are?

(Scratches head) I still don't get why people are having so many issues with the Unifi gear, its point and click long as you have a basic understanding of networking. I admit I'm only running one at home, but was looking after a large number of them at my last job and never had any issues. Is it a particular model thats giving people issues or just across the board ?

You can pretty much read their forums which are just a slow motion train wreck of complaints.

3.2.10 firmware is recommended for gen 1 UAP devices http://community.ubnt.com/t5/UniFi-Wireless/Connectivity-Problems-UAP-UAP-LR-UAP-Pro-UAP-Outdoor5-UAP/m-p/1560070#U1560070

If I were you I'd buy an Xclaim AP - they're far better Ruckus hardware.

It's point and click - but the software is buggy. This has really always been the case with UBNT.

We have a couple of dozen UniFi deployed over the last 4 years and they have given no trouble.  We don't work them hard - max 5 clients connected that do any real work (plus a few mobile devices that just check emails).

The AirControl2 software that the Nanos use has some annoyances for me, but overall the brand is one we are really happy with.

Have you tried the new UAP LITE range yet? I have been thinking of getting some of those for home use.

It's funny - I read a thread here a while ago about staying away from the Unifi gear and deployed an Xclaim AP to a client  - so far it hasn't given any trouble although did require a firmware update before it could be adopted by the cloud controller. Also the supplier didn't exact wax lyrical about them when I called for support to get it connected, in fact he just suggested I send it back. I don't like admitting defeat that easily so updated the firmware and all was good.

I do however prefer the reporting and usage stats that the unifi software gives and find the User Groups and the Guest Control features great for limiting bandwidth and access for different user groups or guest accounts.

I initially had an AWS instance setup for the controller but found after the free tier ran out it was becoming an unnecessary expense so migrated that config to a Cloud Key and now have four sites with an AP or two in each with a mix of UAP-AC-LR, UAP-AC-PRO and UAP-LR and have had no issues other than a firmware upgrade on the UAP-LR that went awry.

I'm know thinking about swapping out the Xclaim for a UAP-AC-PRO so I only have to deal with one controller.

The UAP-AC's are running 3.4.18.3464 and the UAP-LR 3.3.20.4019 and I haven't noticed any issues.

I've deployed a few - the new hardware isn't bad, and pricewise for a dual band AP is pretty good. I would never bother buying an old 2.4GHz gen 1 UAP when the new dual band ones aren't much more and are vastly superior.

Their band steering is now working pretty well and the only known big issue is the 5GHz radio locking up randomly. This might be fixed in one of the current beta's. There are some issues with some Apple devices but that's an issue with every WiFi vendor out there. If you want to use WiFi with Apple products buy an Airport (but if you have an Airport you'll probably then have issues with non Apple devices) since Apple products are not longer WiFi alliance certified.

Not keen on one of these for a few dollars more?

Ended up purchasing one of Sideface's UAPs. After some fun trying to get the controller software to run, all is now well and working as expected.

Thanks to Sideface for the trade and the extra advice on setup - 10/10 would trade again :)

Am pretty impressed with our little CloudKey.  We also had a VM managing these for us, but the expense was not justifiable long term.
