While I'm at it I'm also looking to buy an cheap laptop for the in-laws.

At least 15" screen
Full number pad
Good battery life (I know they don't have a great life on them)
Windows based
Ssd would be ideal, but I guess I could try and fit one
(Ideally an anti glare screen as lots of Windows in house but not an deal breaker)

It doesn't have to be very high spec just enough to run windows 10, excel, websites, etc.

Live Around howick, work clevedon, or britomart Saturday mornings.

Why 15" screen?

 

Personally the panels in most "consumer grade" 15" models are shocking. and very glossy. Spent ages finding a good 14" unit for my wife




Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

Mainly because their eyesight isn't that great. And I thought the majority of all laptops were 15.6?

If you happy with second hand, then a PBTech off lease and upgrade to SSD could be a good option.

Yeah still a bit more than they wanted. I was hoping for around $250 (I sold my Toshiba for less, wish I hadn't now lol).

Could pay a bit more for a better spec'd machine if something came up.

I had s look at pb tech and those ex lease were $400 and couldn't see any with a number pad.
