I have had my old file server sitting around for the last year and doing nothing. Anyone in Wellington after something like this?

1 x Intel Core i5 3470S Ivy Bridge 2.90Ghz 6MB 65W LGA1155 Low Power
1 x Mushkin Blackline FrostByte 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3-1600 CL10 (997055)
1 x Asrock Z77 Extreme6 Intel Z77 Motherboard
3x 2TB 2TB Green HDD
1x 120GB Intel 520 SSD
1x Coolermaster 460 PSU
1x Passively cooled EN6600 GPU 256MB
1x DVD writer (black)
1x Silverstone sst-tj06 tower case (silver)

Happy to let it go for $200 so it's out of the house...

All the HDD's worked fine when last used but would need to wipe them before sale anyway so will check.

There's no way i'm bothering to ship it anywhere i'm afraid. Make me an offer if $200 is too much.

*shrug*

This would be a decent freenas box .. mine is similar spec (albeit with 4 cores) maybe could use 2-3 more spindles tho

I could indeed be interested... My NAS needs a new drive, but it's such a slow thing anyway it could do with replacement.

My primary needs would be as a file server for videos and music; and also to run the Squeezebox server software for our various Squeezeboxes. I'm assuming this would undertake these roles fine?

Would I need to install FreeNAS or similar if I use it just for these functions? And does running FreeNAS rule it out from also using it as a Squeezebox server?

Oh, are you selling it with an OS?

Cheers and thanks.

Edit: oops, I meant to also ask: I'm assuming I could easily enough operate this headless over the network using TeamViewer or similar? And does the video card have HDMI (or DVI) out? Thanks!

Information wants to be free. The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.

It worked as a headless fileserver for videos/music for several years without any hiccup so can't see why it wouldn't still work well for this. It was capable of transcoding Plex/Emby, but this was pre 4k file formats, so i'm unsure on the ability to do those.

There will be no OS installed on any drive.

From memory the gpu is VGA/DVI but if you aren't using it to play files directly off of you could use a DVI to HDMI adaptor without issue.

Should be able to run the Logitech Media Server under freenas, looks a little tricky but : http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?104122-How-to-Installing-LMS-7-9-nightly-in-a-FreeBSD-jail-on-FreeNAS-9-3

@jonathan18 I run the Squeezebox Server on a Raspberry Pi absolutely fine - it requires bugger all processing power. For the Server OS you'd want to either run Squeezebox on Linux (what I personally do) or Windows.

Also sent a pm to be in line to replace my main fileserver, iis server - however, I assume I would be too late.

If anyone is nice enough and doesn't mind doing a motherboards swap with me, i'd be very grateful.

The Audio on mine has died, everything else works perfectly fine. I've got an Asus  P8 Z68 V GEN3
