Hi All,

I have a LG G5 (H820) imported from the USA - unfortunately it is from AT&T and while unlocked can't get any of the Android updates (Need to be on network etc) as AT&T make the process difficult.  I am stuck on an old Android 6 build with bugs so want to upgrade.

At the moment I am looking at buying new from eBay a LG G6 (H870DS),  Moto Z (XT1650) or maybe a S7 Edge, but thought I would check here if anyone is looking to upgrade from one of these devices before I hit buy.

Couple of points/requests:

  • Black in colour
  • Needs to be in very good condition
  • Unlocked and usable on Spark
  • Prices benchmarked against ebay/Aliexpress
  • Not interested in Apple

Cheers!

It won't update even if you use a US based VPN?
Just an idea.

No, no luck there, tried several USA based VPN services.  Even got a AT&T prepaid sim of ebay but cant complete activation from here.

I'm not too familiar with LG hardware but surely it's not that different from every other manufacturer? Meaning you're not locked in to the factory-provided Android installation, there are options.

If you want to keep on top of Android updates, shift to a custom ROM. LineageOS has Nougat available for your phone, they'll have Oreo ready before LG do too (if LG do).

Thanks mate.

Sorry to say, I am at the mercy of AT&T.  Plenty to threads on XDA and others about it.  No Root or unlocked bootloader for the H820 version either.  No KDZ files. No fastboot I believe.

Not ideal!
