I mentioned this on the headphone thread, but thought I should probably put it here as well before putting them up on trademe this weekend.

I'm selling an almost brand new pair of Massdrop Sennheiser HD 6XX headphones - effectively the HD 650 but with a midnight blue finish, 6ft rather than 10ft cord and a 1/8-inch plug (though has an adapter to make it 1/4 inch).

I’ve probably only listened to them for three hours in total, and although they are definitely better than my Sennheiser 598SEs I just don’t use them. Basically the tiny portable dac-amps I normally use aren’t enough to make the 6XXs sound better than the 598s when I’m on the move, and thanks to a new home speaker setup, my static use of headphones has basically stopped.

They are open-backed headphones, so don't provide noise isolation, and do require a reasonably good amp to sound their best.

The HD650 usually retails at well over $600 here, which makes these a deal at $300+shipping (or I can drop-off in central Wellington).

You can get them brand new for a little over $300 from Massdrop shipping included. They pop up every now and then.

Massdrop is more like a online retail store now sadly. When I bought my first pair of headphones from them many years ago they were a legit group buying site.

I agree about the change in Massdrop - you can no longer get the real deals they used to have, but on the other hand they can now commission items like this, so that's a positive. I paid a bit more than $300 with conversion rates etc, and if you do order a pair of HD6XX direct from Massdrop it will take three or four months for them to arrive, as they don't even start manufacturing them until the drop is complete.

Checking on trademe, previous HD6XX have sold for between $350 and $480, so $300 seemed fair enough :)

Previous HD6XX were also advertised as a limited option - if you find that you're willing to drop the price some to move them, and they're still hanging around in a fortnight, let me know and I'll make you an offer on 'em.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

Forgot to update this - these sold a couple of weeks ago.
