Just looking around for a half decent CPU to stick on an older MoBo I have lying around that I thought I would resurrect in to a new computer.

Its got 16GB RAM sitting on it, so thought I might as well get something decent - but don't care enough to buy a new one.

So minimum of an i5 please, don't care if you have a cooler or not. Don't even care about clock speed really - in reality it's just going to be another desktop to use for browsing, bit of coding, etc. But I might load a hypervisor eventually too so just want a few cores for the exta grunt needed there hence not wanting to go dual core (although it would probably cope OK i guess)

Cheapest I've seen on Pricespy is an i5 7400 3.0GHz for $254. Would be really good to pick something up sub-$200 - or maybe I'm undervaluing.

Let me know what you have!

TradeMe is always way too expensive ... something like this would work ?

The G4560 has 2 cores and 4 threads so actually performs rerally well for under $90 and can be had locally too

You could always check if you have Xeon support on the MB (even if its unofficial) .. some of the 4 core Xeon on AliExpress are basically I5 and under NZ$100 too   https://www.aliexpress.com/item/E3-1235LV5-Original-Intel-Xeon-E3-1235L-V5-2-0GHZ-Quad-Core-8MB-25W-14nm-E3/32833335351.html

Good Luck
