Just got this from Mighty Ape for a "friend" and now he doesn't want it ..

It is unopened but Mighty Ape will only give me store credit (what the heck am I going to spend all that money on) but before I return it thought maybe someone here could make use of it.

Happy to let it go for my cost - $3,059

Collection from Albany Auckland or I could ship for free.

Oh wow.

If he's no longer a friend and you have a paper trail, the Disputes Tribunal is a possibility.  At a hearing they may give you to go-ahead to sell it for 'fair market value' (i.e. TradeMe $1 reserve) and register a debt against his name to you for the remainder.

Several hard lessons have taught me that friends and financial transactions do not mix well. undecided

Doesn't CGA protect you against "store credit" only for returns?

Yeh .. friend would be a very loose term right now ...  Mighty Ape were super helpful but would only give me store credit but yeh basically realise I am going to find myself out of pocket at some point.

That's odd, most stores would allow for refunds if the item is not opened and it is within 7 or 14 days.

Its clearly in their T&C ..

I've changed my mind and no longer want the item I ordered

If you've changed your mind you can return your item as long as it's unopened, in mint condition and returned within 14 days of delivery. The shipping for the return will also be at the cost of the buyer. Once we've received the item and our returns team confirms everything checks out OK, you will receive an account credit which can be used to purchase a replacement item.

Mighty Ape have been awesome I don't have anything bad to say about them .. of course if someone from MA sees this and can help with a full refund I am happy to talk :-)

Not if the reason is a change of mind unfortunately. Mighty Ape just offers an account credit.

I reckon you’re going to get the best return (well, least worst return really) by taking that credit then offering it back here in whatever size chunk the geeks want.

There’s a very small chance that someone here was about to purchase that same model laptop, but I’ll betcha big time that there’s going to be $3k spent on products that Mighty Ape stock. Set the size haircut you’re prepared to take - 20% maybe - & watch your Mighty Ape credit disappear.

And your friend - do you know his address? I’d burn his house to the ground

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I did but he is not there and the other flatmates said he has taken off to Australia .. he left a bunch of clothes and stuff behind too ..  the whole saga is pretty dodgy.

My 14 day return period ends Tuesday next week, so if no one is interested I'll send it back Monday and I am sure I can find a way to waste $3K .. they sell food now :-)

Hmm, sudden departure to Australia without his belongings? I think you'll find him at your nearest Queen's Hotel.
