What details on the laptop?

Hard drive have an IDE or Sata interface?

Under Windows Manager you can always make a larger drive have a smaller partition, etc.

I might have something, not sure, will check later. It would be very old if I do, and definitely IDE. If I still have it and it works, you are welcome to it,

That small I would be considering a SD to SATA adapter and just putting a card in it for the silence of no clattering spinning rust. Those adapters are slow, but so are HDDs.

I have two IDE drives, 6 and 16 GB. I just checked and formatted them and both seem fine. If you want either or both, PM me with your details and tell me your wishes.

Thanks guys I need 2.5" sata drive, all I need is a small hard drive to work in an old laptop running Volumio music player and would just run headless and in ram.  Hope this makes sense I have looked for hdd's and they all seem to large for my purpose.  I have set it up with an old 1tb but just seems a waste as its not doing anything apart from booting up.

If it is SATA why not get a cheap SSD for the task?

That would be my thought, if everything is in memory. Get a small (physically small) USB stick.
