Before I go and buy brand new, was wondering if anyone have any old but working case fans they are wanting to let go. It will be for my son's PC whose current fan needs you to either poke it or blow at it to start moving. I can pick up in AKL CBD.

Thanks in advance.

120mm welcome as well. I only posted 14cm / 140mm as the PC case my son has can accommodate it. The current one it will be replacing is a 120mm one. What is special with the 4 pin PWM? The current one only has 3 pins so that should work as well. I only mentioned 4 pins as when I looked at the mobo, it actually has 4 pins. But given the current fans run on 3 pins then, that should be ok as well.

Motherboards seem to have better control over PWM fans - they seem to run at a greater range of speeds.  I suspect it's due to the voltage controlled method keeping the fan voltage and speed up to prevent it unintentionally stopping altogether.

You can for example match an exact fan speed to a certain temperate, something I've not seen with voltage controlled fans despite there being a speed sensor.

Have a look at your motherboard manual

Thanks. I will try and find a manual online given its more than 5 years old. So as I see it, any 12 cm fan would do as am just squeezing out the remaining life out of it.
