I have an older logitech mouse the mx5500 that used the large usb plug in Dongle and i cant find the plug in bit 

 

just wondered if anyone has a broken mouse that hasnt thrown the usb bit away

Contact Logitech they might send you one.  I got a nano receiver replaced by them when I lost it.

Of note, it looks to be a standard bluetooth 2.0+EDR dongle. If you've got built in bluetooth or any old bluetooth dongle, you SHOULD be able to connect to it using normal bluetooth.
