Missed out on getting one of their routers on the $49 promotion, does anyone have one they're wanting to sell? In Manawatu region, but happy to pay postage. Cheers!

AFAIK they FORCE you to buy one on signup... even if you already have one 😡

My MiL switched from spark to skinny (on fibre) when her youngest finally left home and was forced to buy the router to join... then rang up to ask when she’d have to switch routers about a week later, only to be told she’d been switched to skinny 2 days before... it was working normally, even though the skinny router was (and still is) in the box 🤦🏼‍♂️

Check with the signup crew if they’ll allow you to join with your own one first!

@PhantomNVD - Cheers for that! I've heard something similar to that too regarding their fixed line broadband, but I believe their 4G wireless connection is different. They have instructions on their website here and here saying it's possible to use a used wireless modem, and I've seen a couple threads here asking if it can be done. Thanks for the info though, much appreciated.

I'm using a second hand 4g modem with skinny now -it's all good although their transfer process is a bit clunky.

Try trademe if you don't get any luck here - should be able to get one for under $40 - mine was $15

@nickb800 @sparkz25 - were these Skinny branded ones? I'm not sure a normal B315 would work as I don't think Skinny sell the sim only.

My one was a spark one, but it looks like it has generic firmware on it, and it also works on 2 degrees

I've got one spare. $25 inc postage (as I am in AKL)?  I'll have to find a box to put it in, but that shouldn't be too hard. It does need a firmware upgrade though which I can try and do also.

Firmware updated on it, connects to Skinny but I'd have to cancel my account linking with the modem.
